
All cats are tabby in their genes. although they may have other genetic traits that cover up or suppress their pattern. The stripes of the tabby pattern are made up of areas of solid hairs set against areas of banded hairs produced by changes in pigment production. The main gene that controls wether a cat looks tabby or not is the agouti gene or allele. The dominant form ( A - ) shows the tabby pattern, but the recessive ( aa ) gives solid coats.....
