Everything about persian is soft and rounded. The coat is about 10cm ( 4 in ) long, longer on the ruff and in some top show cats. It is fine and matts easily, making this a breed that demands a considerable investment of time in grooming. The body is broad and cobby, carried on short legs. The head is rounded, and the ears have rounded tips. Cats in North America tend to have the shortest noses, and the CFA breed standard call for forehead, nose , and chin to be in vertical aligment, while in the UK the GCCF standard calls for ashort , broad nose with a stop. All colours are now accepted internationally ( under varied names ) , in solid , tortie , pointed , or bi-colours and smoke, shade and tipped. In personality, the persian is undemanding. It is quiet , sweet voiced , and content to lounge around, although clipped cats are more active. The short face can cause breathing problems and kinked tear ducts , and there is a high incidence of polycyctic kidney disease and retained testicles.
