Underneath every cats coat - even those coats that appear to be solid coloured , is the original taby pattern designed to camouflage the cat in the wild. and a permanent reminder of the cats roots. All other coat pattern are the result of genetic mutations that are encouraged through selective breeding. These mutations would have been dangerous to the cats when they lived in the wild, as their ability to hunt without beeing seen would have been seriously compromised. As pet cat, however , such considerations have been deemed irrelevant
